Our eyes were not designed to look at a computer, smart phone or tablet back-lit screen all day long.
These glasses have a special coating that deflects a portion of the blue light. The other portions of the color spectrum are not filtered, maintaining a sharp image.
The lenses at Phonetic Eyewear were designed to combat the effects of digital eye strain and alleviate the symptoms associated with Computer Vision Syndrome. Using a proprietary lens coating, they are able to reflect and absorb a portion of the potentially harmful blue light emitted from computers and other backlit devices.
For more information, visit the Phonetic Eyewear website.
The transmission characteristics for Phonetic lenses are summarized in the graph above. Phonetic lenses block approximately 35% of the light in the violet/blue spectrum (380nm to 500nm) and more than 50% of the light from 380nm to 450nm, which is the portion of the violet/blue spectrum with the highest energy content.
