Drawing inspiration from the visual language of ‘dazzle’ camouflage developed by artist Norman Wilkinson in World War 1, MAN A is a series of seemingly flat geometric surfaces, activated by a users’ mobile app to reveal engaging performances.

“Métamorphy” (interactive performance)
This work offers immersive projections of the body by mixing real and imaginary reflections. With the spectator’s interaction, a semi-transparent veil becomes elastic, and returns to rigidity again. The exploration of depths into the veil reveals various meditative universes through organic, liquid or incandescent substances.

“Augmented Hand Series” (interactive)
The Augmented Hand Series is a real-time interactive software system that presents playful, dreamlike, and uncanny transformations of its visitors' hands. Conceived as a tool for muddling embodied cognition, and for exploring new possibilities of the digital body, the installation consists of a box into which a visitor inserts their hand, and a display that shows their 'reimagined' hand is altered by various dynamic and structural transformations.
Lumen Immersive Environments Award - $1000

“A New Jerusalem” (VR installation)
A New Jerusalem is an immersive virtual reality installation that seeks to embody the spirit of a heavenly city prophesised in the Book of Revelation. The pictorial visualisations have been generated from the text itself and turned into a data code and rendered four-dimensional by drawing upon current Google Maps data of present day Jerusalem.
Level 39 Creative Coding Award - $1000
XCEED, Hong Kong
"RadianceScape" (generative data visualisation)
RadianceScape is a data-visualising sonic composition. Using live radiation data obtained from a global sensor network, it generates an audio-visual cityscape that maps the darkness and lasting damage of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster.
Level39, which sponsored this award, is Europe’s largest technology accelerator space for finance, cyber-securities, and future cities technology companies. Portée/ is the interactive unfolding of a musical score in space and a collective multi-sensory experience. Sixteen independent electroluminescent wires are deployed in a towering asymmetric weave of light. Visitors are invited to explore the spatial & interactive qualities of music, through a poetic setting.
Welsh National Opera (WNO) launched this award to help it to explore the creative opportunities opened up by digital media. “We regard this as primarily a vehicle for new creative thinking and are excited to explore where this might lead us, and how it might interact with a traditional but exceptionally rich genre such as opera.” says David Pountney, Artistic Director of the WNO.
The Founder’s Prize - $1000

The artist has created a computerized system for art-making that perpetuates and sustains itself in a system with infinite capacity for making and sharing new unique images. The fact that the digital product made by the machine captivates humans and is sold, as fine art in and of itself is a testament to the success of the experiment, and the viability of independently creative machines.
The Still Image Award - $1000

“Lundbyes Coast – Oblivion” (Still)
Lundbye’s Coast – Oblivion is a series of images that spring from Johan Lundbye’s painting A Danish Coast (1843). A digital version of the painting has been corrupted in the computer so that all the codes of the image file are still intact but the computer doesn’t know how to reassemble the image. Each image in the series is the software’s attempt to recreate the original painting and recall what it looks like. The process in the computer becomes a sort of analogy of oblivion, of erased memories.
The People’s Choice Award - $250 Fabiano Mixo, Berlin, Germany “Woman without Mandolin“ (time-based) Woman without Mandolin is a portrait of Miriam Goldschmidt and a cubist film. Mixo rethinks cubism as a film medium by using digital motion compositing combined with a visual concept of simultaneously using different cameras in different angles to capture several perspectives of the same subject. The piece confronts the formalistic aspects of Cubism in the European art context and is influenced by African art, allowing its audience to reflect on the re-appropriation of the appropriated.
